The "Small" NRA...

George Will comments on the political influence of the "small" NRA and its mere 4 million members; there are far more AARP members. (Keep in mind that Will isn't known as a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment.) In particular, Will makes mention of the "Poodle" ad and its "That dog don't hunt!" tag line. The NRA has been reaching out to hunters to inform them of Kerry's real record on firearms rights and shooting sports. You can read more about "Bwana John" on this site. (Click here)

Will goes on to point out that the NRA was cited as one of those "dangerous" organizations that needed to be curbed by campaign finance reform...
Some liberals who are no more respectful of the First Amendment than they are of the Second saw campaign finance reform as a way to inhibit the NRA from talking against gun control. Advocates of the McCain-Feingold bill for extending government regulation of political speech repeatedly mentioned the NRA as a group whose speech could be curtailed by complicating the process of financing political advocacy.
