More from gun-free Britain

TimesOnline.com reports that there is a "gun crime" every 5 hours in the UK. If you love hearing politicians spew hot gas, you'll love this story. The bureacrats quoted in the piece belch out enough BTUs to heat Windsor Castle for a month. What you won't hear is anything close to an admission that disarming law-abiding citizens does nothing to reduce violent crime; let alone that such laws actually increase crime!

NRA Endorses George W. Bush for President

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

FAIRFAX, VA -- The National Rifle Association`s Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed George W. Bush for President of the United States.

"NRA stands with President George W. Bush on November 2nd," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA executive vice president. "If you believe in freedom and want to preserve the Second Amendment for future generations, vote to re-elect President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

"In the United States we have a long tradition of hunting and sport shooting," stated LaPierre. "President Bush and Vice President Cheney both love to hunt and fish. They know the Constitution gives people the personal right to bear arms. And, they want to pass the values of our Nation on to a new generation."

NRA Chief Lobbyist Chris W. Cox added, "Four years ago, NRA members went to the polls and stopped Al Gore`s plans to continue the war on America`s gun owners. But now, we face a greater threat than even the Clinton/Gore Administration posed. John Kerry and John Edwards are the most anti-gun presidential team in our country`s history.

"Law-abiding gun owners must understand the importance of the 2004 elections for the Second Amendment," Cox said. "America has a clear choice; to side with a candidate who has a long record of protecting our gun rights, or with a candidate who has cast more than 50 votes against gun owners and sportsmen."

"The future of our freedom is at stake on November 2. Join with us, and ask your family, friends and fellow sportsmen to join with us, in voting for a freer and stronger America. Vote to re-elect President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney," concluded LaPierre.

Does "Zero tolerence" have to mean "Zero thought"!?!

Londonderry High School senior Blake Douglass is not a terrorist. But, by the way the local school board is reacting to his senior yearbook photo, you'd think that he was Ussama freakin' bin Laden! What did Blake do that was so unacceptable?

He posed with his shotgun.

Blake is a trap shooter. He wanted his senior photo to express this important part of his life. The school board, apparently equating "zero tolerance" with "zero thought" said no. Now Blake and his parents are suing the district.

No one wants violence in schools. But a firearm, let alone a mere picture of one, is not in and of itself violent; unless you believe that all guns are evil. But what we see here is all too common. In their desire to avoid an unnecessary or unpleasant mental work-out, school officials and others citing "zero tolerance" policies end up looking like toddlers sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting "LALALALALA!!! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!" "Zero tolerance" is an attractive policy since it relieves administrators of the need to think and make decisions. Thinking and decisions are, after all, dangerous things! The Londonderry board hid behind their unthinking policy and thus avoided having to face the dangerous possibility that not all guns are evil.

The "Small" NRA...

George Will comments on the political influence of the "small" NRA and its mere 4 million members; there are far more AARP members. (Keep in mind that Will isn't known as a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment.) In particular, Will makes mention of the "Poodle" ad and its "That dog don't hunt!" tag line. The NRA has been reaching out to hunters to inform them of Kerry's real record on firearms rights and shooting sports. You can read more about "Bwana John" on this site. (Click here)

Will goes on to point out that the NRA was cited as one of those "dangerous" organizations that needed to be curbed by campaign finance reform...
Some liberals who are no more respectful of the First Amendment than they are of the Second saw campaign finance reform as a way to inhibit the NRA from talking against gun control. Advocates of the McCain-Feingold bill for extending government regulation of political speech repeatedly mentioned the NRA as a group whose speech could be curtailed by complicating the process of financing political advocacy.

UNinterested in preserving your rights...

...but quite interested in taking away your guns!

NewsMax.com discusses the connection between John Kerry, George Soros, the UN, and your rights.

NRA Executive VP Wayne LaPierre told a group in NYC that the UN is becoming the major threat to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Over 500 NGOs are working to advance the UN's anti-gun agenda. One in particular, the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), is receiving support from Soros, a vocal, wealthy Kerry supporter. The IANSA is attempting to build on their "success" in disarming law-abiding Australians.

(Wayne LaPierre will be debating the IANSA's Rebecca Peters on InDemand pay-per-view tonight!)

UN efforts hit a brick wall when a trio of Bush apointees, including former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, told the UN that "our Second Amendment is not for sale to the United Nations." But this begs the question: What kind of apointees will a President Kerry send to the UN? What will they tell them about the 2nd Amendment?
